Reynold’s Wellness Center

Opening in 2010, Reynold’s Wellness Center is a relatively new recreational facility focusing on fitness and fun. Weight and cardio rooms let you target your workout. Work towards your fitness goals on the track, which attracts walkers, joggers, and runners. Reynold’s also has basketball and volleyball courts for games with friends. You can also prepare for baseball season in the batting cage. The affordable on-site childcare service makes Reynold’s Wellness Center the ideal choice for busy parents.

Seminole Nation Cvfekne Wellness Center

Seminole Nation Cvfekne Wellness Center is a small recreation center managed by a friendly team who cares about helping the people of the Seminole Nation maximize their health outcomes. It’s different from other recreation centers. Guests are asked to schedule an appointment by calling 405-234-5246 rather than walking into the center when they’re ready to work out. Visitors can create their workout routine using the center’s gym equipment or join a fitness class, such as Tai Chi or Power Hour. Seminole Nation Cvfekne Wellness Center also organizes fun runs to encourage the community to exercise together outdoors.

Location: 35445 Hwy 59 W, Seminole.
Hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with early bird hours from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and after-hours sessions between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Thomas A. Soetaert Aquatic Center

When the weather warms, Thomas A. Soetaert Aquatic Center in Shawnee, 35 minutes northwest of Seminole, is the only place to be. Fun features like a lazy river, the vortex, and two 125-foot body slides complement the Olympic-size pool and diving boards. There’s also a fully enclosed baby pool for tiny tots. After burning the calories, treat yourself to ice cream or a savory snack at the concession stand.

Location: 13805 Johnson Drive, Shawnee.
Hours: 12:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday during the swimming season (late May to mid-August).

Shawnee Family YMCA

Shawnee Family YMCA aims to make fitness accessible to everyone, regardless of age, background, or income. During scheduled times, you can use the gym or enjoy the pool with its water park and lazy river. The YMCA also runs fitness classes, ranging from intense cardio workouts like kickboxing and spin fit to more gentle exercises, such as yoga and water aerobics. Kids aren’t forgotten at Shawnee Family YMCA. The 2BFIT physical education gets children ages four to 12 moving, and after-school and summer childcare programs allow parents to work out carefree.

Mill Creek Activity Center

Mill Creek Activity Center is another inclusive recreation center with programs for everyone: preschoolers to seniors. Any time during opening hours, you can work up a sweat on the indoor walking track or push your body to its limit with cardio and strength equipment. Mill Creek Activity Center also runs preschool and youth gymnastics classes, kids Ninja training sessions, and Tai Chi classes for adults. Mill Creek Activity Center is ADA accessible, with free Wi-Fi and a locker room for your convenience.

Hours: 8.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, and 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Okun Fieldhouse

Okun Fieldhouse is an indoor recreational center on the Mid-American West Sports Complex site. Its basketball and volleyball courts complement the sporting fields outdoors. Families, businesses, and sporting groups can rent the courts for practice, corporate events, and fun. If you enjoy indoor ball sports, you might consider joining one of Okun Fieldhouse’s leagues. With competitions for beginners, intermediate, and competitive players, everyone can join in the fun.

Bison Recreation and Wellness

Bison Recreation and Wellness is a full-service recreation center conveniently located on the Oklahoma Baptist University Campus (OBU). Accessible to OBU students, their spouses, graduates, and faculty members, it features a fitness center, three full-size indoor basketball courts, three racquetball courts, an elevated track, and a 29-foot climbing wall. Work out at your own pace or team up with a fitness trainer or group fitness class. With Zumba, kickboxing, yoga, and cycle classes, there’s a group training session for every taste and fitness level.

Shawnee Senior Recreation Center

Also in Shawnee, the Shawnee Senior Recreation Center encourages local seniors to stay moving and mobile. Fitness classes consider the needs of elderly residents, ensuring they get the most from the sessions without taxing their bodies. You could try Tai Chi for better balance or stretch your muscles in the chair fitness or gentle yoga class. Daily pickleball games are also great fun. The 2023 Buick Encore GX: An Affordable Luxury Crossover SUV

2023 Buick Encore GX 

Adding the letters GX to the Encore model might make it sound like a trim level. However, Buick decided to add GX to the name to distinguish the 2023 version from Encore’s earlier model years. Rumors are swirling that this is the last year of production for the Encore model. So, now is the time to buy your Buick Encore because the future is uncertain for this luxury crossover SUV.

What’s New for the 2023 Buick Encore GX?

There are no significant changes to the 2023 Buick Encore GX from the 2022 model. The 2023 Encore GX is the fourth year of production for the current version of the model. Any major changes to the model will be made in the 2024 model year if it returns for another year of production.

Familiar Features Returning for the 2023 Buick Encore GX

The 2023 Encore GX comes in three trim levels: Preferred, Select, and Essence. The Preferred trim level is a nicely appointed entry-level vehicle, starting at an MSRP of $25,900. But if you’re looking for a more aggressive appearance, the Sport Touring package is available. And a total of eight exterior paint colors and three different interior colors are offered.

Preferred

The Preferred trim package comes with an array of technology features, including an infotainment system with an 8-inch color touch screen and push-button controls underneath. It also features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. A 4.2-inch color driver information center resides between an analog speedometer and an RPM indicator. Charge-only USB ports are included, as is a USB-A and USB-C port. Power windows, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an in-vehicle ionizer, power door locks, and manual seats are standard.

Select

The Select trim level adds features that improve upon the Preferred trim but don’t quite reach the Essence level. Some standard items include a 10-way power driver’s seat and power lumbar, rear center armrest, navigation in the infotainment system, a head-up display, and heated driver’s and passenger’s seats.

Essence

The top-of-the-line Essence includes features that you never knew you could live without. Some of the standard features at this level include a 120-volt power outlet so you can plug electronics into your car directly without an inverter. The driver can ride comfortably with heated power seats and a leather-wrapped heated steering wheel. Passengers will also be comfortable with power and heated seating that can fold down. And all the seats in the Essence have leather-appointed trim.

Last but not least, the Essence has a premium six-speaker sound system and wireless charging for smartphones is available as an option.

Powertrains Available for the 2023 Buick Encore GX

Two engines are available for the 2023 Encore GX. They include an Ecotec 1.2L turbo engine standard on the Preferred and Select trims. However, it is not available on the Essence trim. The other available engine is an Ecotec 1.3L turbo engine not available on the Preferred. Instead, it is optional on the Select and is standard on the Essence. Both engine types are paired with a continuously variable transmission. The estimated gas mileage is 29 city/32 highway.

All trim levels are available in a front-wheel-drive or an all-wheel-drive system. The 2023 Encore GX can tow 1,000 pounds, and a trailer hitch is available as an option.

The 2023 Buick Encore GX can comfortably seat five adult passengers and has a large cargo area even when the rear seats are upright. The front seats have 39.70 inches of headroom and 40.90 inches of legroom. Both front seats have 51.90 inches of hip room. The headroom for the rear passenger seats is 38.10 inches, with 36 inches of legroom behind the front seats. The total hip room in the back seats is 47.50 inches.

There’s a total of 23.50 square feet of cargo space when the rear seats are up, which more than doubles to 50.20 square feet when the rear seats are down. The rear seats feature a 60/40 split, so you can configure the rear cargo space as needed. But when you need as much length as possible for your cargo, you can fold down the front passenger seat for more room. A hands-free power liftgate trigger is also available as an option.

Adding the letters GX to the Encore model might make it sound like a trim level. However, Buick decided to add GX to the name to distinguish the 2023 version from Encore’s earlier model years. Rumors are swirling that this is the last year of production for the Encore model. So, now is the time to buy your Buick Encore because the future is uncertain for this luxury crossover SUV.

What’s New for the 2023 Buick Encore GX?

There are no significant changes to the 2023 Buick Encore GX from the 2022 model. The 2023 Encore GX is the fourth year of production for the current version of the model. Any major changes to the model will be made in the 2024 model year if it returns for another year of production.

Familiar Features Returning for the 2023 Buick Encore GX

The 2023 Encore GX comes in three trim levels: Preferred, Select, and Essence. The Preferred trim level is a nicely appointed entry-level vehicle, starting at an MSRP of $25,900. But if you’re looking for a more aggressive appearance, the Sport Touring package is available. And a total of eight exterior paint colors and three different interior colors are offered.

Preferred

The Preferred trim package comes with an array of technology features, including an infotainment system with an 8-inch color touch screen and push-button controls underneath. It also features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. A 4.2-inch color driver information center resides between an analog speedometer and an RPM indicator. Charge-only USB ports are included, as is a USB-A and USB-C port. Power windows, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an in-vehicle ionizer, power door locks, and manual seats are standard.

Select

The Select trim level adds features that improve upon the Preferred trim but don’t quite reach the Essence level. Some standard items include a 10-way power driver’s seat and power lumbar, rear center armrest, navigation in the infotainment system, a head-up display, and heated driver’s and passenger’s seats.

Essence

The top-of-the-line Essence includes features that you never knew you could live without. Some of the standard features at this level include a 120-volt power outlet so you can plug electronics into your car directly without an inverter. The driver can ride comfortably with heated power seats and a leather-wrapped heated steering wheel. Passengers will also be comfortable with power and heated seating that can fold down. And all the seats in the Essence have leather-appointed trim.

Last but not least, the Essence has a premium six-speaker sound system and wireless charging for smartphones is available as an option.

Powertrains Available for the 2023 Buick Encore GX

Two engines are available for the 2023 Encore GX. They include an Ecotec 1.2L turbo engine standard on the Preferred and Select trims. However, it is not available on the Essence trim. The other available engine is an Ecotec 1.3L turbo engine not available on the Preferred. Instead, it is optional on the Select and is standard on the Essence. Both engine types are paired with a continuously variable transmission. The estimated gas mileage is 29 city/32 highway.

All trim levels are available in a front-wheel-drive or an all-wheel-drive system. The 2023 Encore GX can tow 1,000 pounds, and a trailer hitch is available as an option.

The rear seats feature a 60/40 split, so you can configure the rear cargo space as needed. But when you need as much length as possible for your cargo, you can fold down the front passenger seat for more room. A hands-free power liftgate trigger is also available as an option.

Sportsman Lake

Going to Sportsman Lake may be what you’re looking for if you’re after something more daring and adventurous. This location is ideal for fishing, camping, boating, RVing, and horseback riding. Ticket prices are affordable, and every activity has a different price point. For example, the basic fee (for walking and exploring) is $8, boating is $5 per day, and the equestrian trail is $3 daily. Strothers Twin Cinema

Recently renovated, The Strothers Twin Cinema is a good option if you are looking for a pleasant and warm family environment where you can enjoy a good movie. One thing that makes this theater so special is its meaning to the Seminole community.

As you may know, we live in a small town, and this is one of our few entertainment venues. The theater is clean and plays current movies. Regarding prices, anyone should be able to afford a ticket. Adults pay $7, children 12 years old and younger pay $6, children 3 years old and under get in for free, seniors over 65 years old pay $6, and active-duty military personnel pay $6.

Snowman Wonderland

Snowman Wonderland has one of Oklahoma’s best light displays. Many Seminole residents make a yearly tradition of viewing this display every December — it’s an event we never want to miss. We recommend you mark your calendar because this is a beautiful way to spend a night with your loved ones.

We don’t know the itinerary for next December at the time of this writing. Still, there were several attractions last year, including:

• Riding the trolley
• Renting a golf cart
• Proposals with “Would You Marry Me?” lights and a horse and carriage ride
• Several activities at Reynold’s Wellness Center
• Luminaries on the lake
• Christmas recitals
• Santa Claus meetups
• The fireworks finale

Visitors can collect candy, and other Halloween treats at the home of the Three Little Pigs, the shoe-shaped house of the Old Lady Who Lived in a Shoe, Humpty Dumpty’s wall, a gingerbread house, and many other locations. This place also has a concession area, a hayride, a game area for kids, and closely supervised campfires to roast hot dogs and make s’mores. Restrooms and hand sanitizer stations are also available as well.

Legal service animals are the only pets allowed, and people must buy tickets in advance. They’re not refundable, but you may be able to use your keys on a different night if the weather is terrible.

Location: Arcadia Lake’s Spring Creek Park, 2.5 miles east of I-35 on 15th Street in Edmond, just a short road trip away from Oklahoma City.

Hours::  October 23 through October 30 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Haunt the Zoo

The Oklahoma City Zoo hosts the 39th annual Haunt the Zoo event. If you are a ticket holder with kids, you can get unique treat bags to carry through the event; outside treat bags aren’t allowed. No costumes with weapons or masks covering the face are allowed.

The attractions at Haunt the Zoo include a hay maze, a Halloween picnic area, a painting, and crafting experience, a Halloween-themed sea lion show, a bewitched elephant express tram, and a carousel ride. However, some attractions require additional fees. Visitors can take festive photos at 20 themed booths scattered throughout the zoo, and the popular BRICKLIVE Animal Paradise Exhibit will be decorated to fit the event theme.

The Frightfest Ride For Your Life

The Frightfest Ride For Your Life event occurs at the Six Flags Frontier City Amusement Park. The more family-friendly attractions will be open during the day, and the more terrifying ones will be available after nightfall. A regular Frontier City admission ticket gets you visitors access to every attraction.

Younger visitors will love the Booville children’s Halloween experience if you have young kids. It includes a trick-or-treat trail, a pumpkin patch with a pumpkin decorating area, a storytelling corner, face painting, and more. The Spooktacular Shows have a magical illusion show, a saloon show, and a gunfighter stunt show. Older visitors can check out the Nightmare Haunted House, the Carnival of Chaos fun house, and the Scare Zones for those a little older. These are some of the scariest Halloween experiences that Oklahoma City has to offer. However, some regular attractions will be closed at night for safety reasons.

The Halloween Train at the Oklahoma Railway Museum

The Halloween Train at the Oklahoma Railway Museum will be on the train’s A, B, C, and D cars. The D car will have accessible seating for people with disabilities, and kids under three years old can ride for free.

This event includes a miniature golf course and a scavenger hunt inside the museum. If you ride, and candy gift bags for everyone who rides the train, you’ll get a candy gift bag. Allergy-friendly candy gift bags are also available. There’s also a costume contest, and kids and adults can compete. The categories include the best costume for a child under 13 years old, the best group, and the best couple. This event will occur whether it rains or shines, regardless of the weather. However, the train is an old-style steam model with temperamental heating. You may want to bring some jackets or sweaters for the people in your group.

Hours::  The Halloween trains will leave Oakwood Station on October 29 and 30 at 12 p.m., 1:15 p.m., 2:30 p.m., and 3:45 p.m. You should arrive at least 20 minutes before your chosen departure time.
