BLOCWORKS CLIMBING COMMUNITY

Climbers of all ability levels are welcome at Blocworks Climbing Community. From beginners to experts, there are climbing courses for everyone. The staff will help you hone your climbing ability no matter what your skill level is, which makes it a great place for both first-time climbers and those who’ve been at it for years. It’s a bouldering gym, so all you need to get started are climbing shoes and chalk. Courses are color-coded, which means it’s easy to find a path that fits your needs.

Kids aged 13 and younger can enjoy 90 minutes of free climb time, but you might want to plan in advance, as time slots aren’t guaranteed if you just show up. If you’re looking for a unique climbing experience, then head to Summit OKC Silos. In 1999, the gym was created from an existing grain silo. Now, it’s a 90-foot climbing gym that boasts tons of climbing spots for those of all skill levels. They offer top-rope and lead courses as well as bouldering and auto-belay areas. When the weather’s nice, you can even challenge yourself on the courses on the exterior of the grain silo. The building’s exterior also has a cool mural entitled “This Land” that gives the place character.

At Summit OKC Silos you’ll find yoga and fitness areas where you can tone your muscles and get in better shape. It also offers youth programs so that kids can start learning the climbing skills that will help them form healthy habits and get the exercise they need to build strength.

WICHITA MOUNTAINS

While indoor climbing places are great, especially when the weather’s not, you can’t beat getting out in nature and feeling real rocks under your feet when the temperatures allow for it. If you’d like to experience some exciting outdoor climbing near OKC, then check out some of the incredible spots found in the nearby Wichita Mountains. In fact, within the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, located in southwestern Oklahoma near Lawton, you’ll find several unbeatable spots to test your climbing abilities. MOUNT SCOTT

Mount Scott consists of both an upper and lower section, which both provide unique challenges. Some of the popular climbs here include the Atomic Knee Drop, which features a hand crack that splits the upper wall, the Foolish, which is great for those with intermediate climbing skills, and High Anxiety, which is a fairly high climb that might be best suited for those with a little more experience. Other options to seek out are Yee Haw, Mr. Clean, and Foolish Behavior.

CHARON’S GARDENS

Another great place for climbing in the Wichita Mountains is Charon’s Gardens. Here, you’ll find the Echo Dome, which can provide some shade in the scorching summer heat. The Worm Hole has good bolted protections and makes for an easy start. At the Elk Slabs, you can try your hand at Great Expectations, which could prove challenging, as it has some pretty interesting headwall and belay action. Then, of course, there’s the Lost Dome Region, where you’ll have to make your way through the trees to get to the wall that awaits.

NARROWS

The Narrows also has a lot of good climbing options that you’re going to want to try out. Dr. Coolhead, for example, is an interesting climb that gives you options. Some take it straight up, while others prefer to head for the ledge off to one side. If you truly want to prove yourself, then you can try out Aerial Anticipation, which some call the best sport route in all of Oklahoma. It has a pretty tough roof section, and you may have to belay yourself across a stream when the water’s high.

Reynold’s Wellness Center

Opening in 2010, Reynold’s Wellness Center is a relatively new recreational facility focusing on fitness and fun. Weight and cardio rooms let you target your workout. Work towards your fitness goals on the track, which attracts walkers, joggers, and runners. Reynold’s also has basketball and volleyball courts for games with friends. You can also prepare for baseball season in the batting cage. The affordable on-site childcare service makes Reynold’s Wellness Center the ideal choice for busy parents.

Seminole Nation Cvfekne Wellness Center

Seminole Nation Cvfekne Wellness Center is a small recreation center managed by a friendly team who cares about helping the people of the Seminole Nation maximize their health outcomes. It’s different from other recreation centers. Guests are asked to schedule an appointment by calling 405-234-5246 rather than walking into the center when they’re ready to work out. Visitors can create their workout routine using the center’s gym equipment or join a fitness class, such as Tai Chi or Power Hour. Seminole Nation Cvfekne Wellness Center also organizes fun runs to encourage the community to exercise together outdoors.

Location: 35445 Hwy 59 W, Seminole.
Hours: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with early bird hours from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and after-hours sessions between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Thomas A. Soetaert Aquatic Center

When the weather warms, Thomas A. Soetaert Aquatic Center in Shawnee, 35 minutes northwest of Seminole, is the only place to be. Fun features like a lazy river, the vortex, and two 125-foot body slides complement the Olympic-size pool and diving boards. There’s also a fully enclosed baby pool for tiny tots. After burning the calories, treat yourself to ice cream or a savory snack at the concession stand.

The 2023 Buick Encore GX: An Affordable Luxury Crossover SUV

2023 Buick Encore GX 

Adding the letters GX to the Encore model might make it sound like a trim level. However, Buick decided to add GX to the name to distinguish the 2023 version from Encore’s earlier model years. Rumors are swirling that this is the last year of production for the Encore model. So, now is the time to buy your Buick Encore because the future is uncertain for this luxury crossover SUV.

What’s New for the 2023 Buick Encore GX?

There are no significant changes to the 2023 Buick Encore GX from the 2022 model. The 2023 Encore GX is the fourth year of production for the current version of the model. Any major changes to the model will be made in the 2024 model year if it returns for another year of production.

Familiar Features Returning for the 2023 Buick Encore GX

The 2023 Encore GX comes in three trim levels: Preferred, Select, and Essence. The Preferred trim level is a nicely appointed entry-level vehicle, starting at an MSRP of $25,900. But if you’re looking for a more aggressive appearance, the Sport Touring package is available. And a total of eight exterior paint colors and three different interior colors are offered.

Preferred

The Preferred trim package comes with an array of technology features, including an infotainment system with an 8-inch color touch screen and push-button controls underneath. It also features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. A 4.2-inch color driver information center resides between an analog speedometer and an RPM indicator. Charge-only USB ports are included, as is a USB-A and USB-C port. Power windows, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an in-vehicle ionizer, power door locks, and manual seats are standard.

Select

The Select trim level adds features that improve upon the Preferred trim but don’t quite reach the Essence level. Some standard items include a 10-way power driver’s seat and power lumbar, rear center armrest, navigation in the infotainment system, a head-up display, and heated driver’s and passenger’s seats.

Essence

The top-of-the-line Essence includes features that you never knew you could live without. Some of the standard features at this level include a 120-volt power outlet so you can plug electronics into your car directly without an inverter. The driver can ride comfortably with heated power seats and a leather-wrapped heated steering wheel. Passengers will also be comfortable with power and heated seating that can fold down. And all the seats in the Essence have leather-appointed trim.

Last but not least, the Essence has a premium six-speaker sound system and wireless charging for smartphones is available as an option.

Powertrains Available for the 2023 Buick Encore GX

Two engines are available for the 2023 Encore GX. They include an Ecotec 1.2L turbo engine standard on the Preferred and Select trims. However, it is not available on the Essence trim. The other available engine is an Ecotec 1.3L turbo engine not available on the Preferred. Instead, it is optional on the Select and is standard on the Essence. Both engine types are paired with a continuously variable transmission. The estimated gas mileage is 29 city/32 highway.

All trim levels are available in a front-wheel-drive or an all-wheel-drive system. The 2023 Encore GX can tow 1,000 pounds, and a trailer hitch is available as an option.

The front seats have 39.70 inches of headroom and 40.90 inches of legroom. Both front seats have 51.90 inches of hip room. The headroom for the rear passenger seats is 38.10 inches, with 36 inches of legroom behind the front seats. The total hip room in the back seats is 47.50 inches.

There’s a total of 23.50 square feet of cargo space when the rear seats are up, which more than doubles to 50.20 square feet when the rear seats are down. The rear seats feature a 60/40 split, so you can configure the rear cargo space as needed. But when you need as much length as possible for your cargo, you can fold down the front passenger seat for more room. A hands-free power liftgate trigger is also available as an option.

The 2023 Buick Encore GX: An Affordable Luxury Crossover SUV

Adding the letters GX to the Encore model might make it sound like a trim level. However, Buick decided to add GX to the name to distinguish the 2023 version from Encore’s earlier model years. Rumors are swirling that this is the last year of production for the Encore model. So, now is the time to buy your Buick Encore because the future is uncertain for this luxury crossover SUV.

What’s New for the 2023 Buick Encore GX?

There are no significant changes to the 2023 Buick Encore GX from the 2022 model. The 2023 Encore GX is the fourth year of production for the current version of the model. Any major changes to the model will be made in the 2024 model year if it returns for another year of production.

Familiar Features Returning for the 2023 Buick Encore GX

The 2023 Encore GX comes in three trim levels: Preferred, Select, and Essence. The Preferred trim level is a nicely appointed entry-level vehicle, starting at an MSRP of $25,900. But if you’re looking for a more aggressive appearance, the Sport Touring package is available. And a total of eight exterior paint colors and three different interior colors are offered.

Preferred

The Preferred trim package comes with an array of technology features, including an infotainment system with an 8-inch color touch screen and push-button controls underneath. It also features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. A 4.2-inch color driver information center resides between an analog speedometer and an RPM indicator. Charge-only USB ports are included, as is a USB-A and USB-C port. Power windows, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an in-vehicle ionizer, power door locks, and manual seats are standard.

Select

The Select trim level adds features that improve upon the Preferred trim but don’t quite reach the Essence level. Some standard items include a 10-way power driver’s seat and power lumbar, rear center armrest, navigation in the infotainment system, a head-up display, and heated driver’s and passenger’s seats.

Essence

The top-of-the-line Essence includes features that you never knew you could live without. Some of the standard features at this level include a 120-volt power outlet so you can plug electronics into your car directly without an inverter. The driver can ride comfortably with heated power seats and a leather-wrapped heated steering wheel. Passengers will also be comfortable with power and heated seating that can fold down. And all the seats in the Essence have leather-appointed trim.

Last but not least, the Essence has a premium six-speaker sound system and wireless charging for smartphones is available as an option.

Powertrains Available for the 2023 Buick Encore GX

Two engines are available for the 2023 Encore GX. They include an Ecotec 1.2L turbo engine standard on the Preferred and Select trims. However, it is not available on the Essence trim. The other available engine is an Ecotec 1.3L turbo engine not available on the Preferred. Instead, it is optional on the Select and is standard on the Essence. Both engine types are paired with a continuously variable transmission. The estimated gas mileage is 29 city/32 highway.

All trim levels are available in a front-wheel-drive or an all-wheel-drive system. The 2023 Encore GX can tow 1,000 pounds, and a trailer hitch is available as an option.

Passenger and Cargo Capacity

The 2023 Buick Encore GX can comfortably seat five adult passengers and has a large cargo area even when the rear seats are upright. The front seats have 39.70 inches of headroom and 40.90 inches of legroom. Both front seats have 51.90 inches of hip room. The headroom for the rear passenger seats is 38.10 inches, with 36 inches of legroom behind the front seats. The total hip room in the back seats is 47.50 inches.

There’s a total of 23.50 square feet of cargo space when the rear seats are up, which more than doubles to 50.20 square feet when the rear seats are down. The rear seats feature a 60/40 split, so you can configure the rear cargo space as needed. But when you need as much length as possible for your cargo, you can fold down the front passenger seat for more room. A hands-free power liftgate trigger is also available as an option.
