Are you thinking about planning something extra special with your significant other for Valentine’s Day this year but not sure what to do? There are so many unique and romantic ways to spend this delightful day. Some people prefer to go the traditional route and enjoy an intimate candlelit dinner at a gourmet restaurant. At the same time, some couples might want to do an adventurous activity in the great outdoors, and others are more comfortable staying cozy at home.
We know every couple is different, so we came up with a wide range of ideas for this year’s Valentine’s Day. We know that at least one of these will appeal to you, so go through the list with your partner — or alone if you’re planning a sweet surprise — and see how you can spice up your special romantic day.
SURPRISE YOUR PARTNER BY RECREATING YOUR FIRST DATE
Couples who have been together for a long time may feel that initial spark they had at the beginning of their romance start to wane as daily routines like housekeeping, child-rearing, and long workdays set in. What better time than Valentine’s Day to ignite the flame and rekindle those passionate and exciting days from the start of the relationship?
Remind your significant other of some of your earliest and most precious memories by recreating your first date. Whether it was a fun movie night, a hike out in the woods, or dinner at a neighborhood restaurant, try to remember as many details from that first romantic night together as you can and match your Valentine’s Day as closely as possible.
TAKE A TRIP IN YOUR OWN TOWN
Most people can’t afford to take a big trip to Paris or Rome for Valentine’s Day. However, you and your loved one don’t need to spend thousands of dollars and fly around the world to have a romantic day or night out as tourists. Instead, explore your backyard in Seminole like you’re on vacation and discover something you never knew about your town.
Is there a museum you have always wanted to visit? A unique venue you haven’t been to yet? Or perhaps an interesting attraction in Oklahoma City you haven’t really explored yet? Whatever it is, almost every couple has something they’ve wanted to do in Seminole, but life gets too busy, and it just gets pushed aside. Make Valentine’s Day the day you take a staycation and finish the day off with an incredible gourmet dinner for that extra touch of class.
ENJOY DINNER AT DON CIRO’S
Head to one of the top-rated restaurants in Seminole to enjoy a great dining experience in a cozy, warm atmosphere. Each staff member at Don Ciro’s prides themselves on their friendly and professional service. They work extra hard to make all their customers feel cared for and special.
Guests rave about the costillas featuring delectable pork ribs cooked in a choice of red or green sauce. The molcajete is a customer favorite and combines several meat varieties, including carne asada, chicken, and chorizo. Both dishes are served with rice, beans, and guacamole, providing the perfect finishing touch to each hearty and flavorful meal. The restaurant is located at 100 N. Main St. in Seminole. If you can’t make a reservation here for Valentine’s Day, try one of the many other highly-rated Mexican restaurants nearby.
BOOK A COUPLES MASSAGE
Take a break from the stress of daily life and experience a day of rejuvenation by booking a couples massage. If you have the time, you can make your massage part of a whole spa day and engage in self-care and a bit of pampering as a couple. Nothing is more romantic than relaxing with each other and taking care of your mind and body together. Shared experiences can only strengthen your romantic bond, and Valentine’s Day is the perfect time for indulging in some rest and relaxation together.
GO STARGAZING AT TENKILLER STATE PARK
Seminole residents are lucky to live in one of the best places for stargazing in the continental United States. If you want to spend a night looking up at the Milky Way, there are many rural areas you can choose from, but we highly recommend heading out to Tenkiller State Park.
Just under two hours away from Seminole, Tenkiller State Park is known as one of the best dark sky sites in the state. People come here from all over Oklahoma to stargaze far away from the light pollution of major towns and cities. So head out to Tenkiller State Park with your partner, bring snacks and drinks, and spend an evening observing the awe-inspiring stars and planets of the majestic night sky.
If you can take a day off, we recommend you stay in the area overnight in one of the many available cabins — or a tent, if you’re up for roughing it — and spend the next day in the glorious outdoors. After all, the park is known for its large, crystal-clear lake, stunning hiking trails, and a variety of water sports.
HAVE A ROMANTIC DATE NIGHT AT HOME
It’s nice to have a romantic night out or explore the great outdoors, but for some couples, a romantic evening at home is just what the doctor ordered. So pick a tried-and-true recipe you both love, or choose the one you’ve wanted to try for a long time and make it together. Plan ahead as much as possible and shop for your ingredients the day before to ensure you have everything on hand.
After you’re done with dinner — and don’t forget dessert — pick your favorite romantic movie or two and settle in for a cozy night on the couch. What could be more romantic than watching a movie, snacking on popcorn, and snuggling under a blanket far removed from Oklahoma’s wintry February cold? Some of our favorite timeless romantic comedies include “Sleepless in Seattle,” “Moonstruck,” and “When Harry Met Sally.” Then, for one of our favorite romances of all time, check out “Dirty Dancing.”
Whether you’re looking to spend Valentine’s Day in a more traditional way or want to try something completely different this year, we are confident there’s a suggestion on our list that will appeal to most Seminole locals. We’d love to add it to our list and include it in a future article.
